This year, the Consulate General of France in New York has proudly for the third consecutive year, marked the French National Day by organizing Bastille Day. Indeed on July 13th in the heart of the iconic Central Park, Rumsey field the consulate invited everyone to take part in the French national holiday while enjoying an exceptional free summer stage concert of urban and pop music, as well as break dance.  In partnership with the Committee of French and French-Language Associations of New York (CAFUSA) curious outsiders, visitors, family, friends and of course the French community experienced French music and culture in an exceptional setting and festive, lively atmosphere with pop and hip-hop vibes.

On this sunny day with a temperature sizzling almost 90 degree, Bastille Day without a doubt was a great success. Despite the heavy heat, central Park was packed with nearly 7,000 attendees who came out gathered to celebrate this FREE show ready to dance all night.

The Consulate General of France supported by prestigious partners such as L’Oréal, Tiffany and Tikehau Capital, offered a diversified and thrilling program during the Bastille Day evening.

Several French talents rocked the house. They set the stage alight and electrified the audience with their exceptional performances.  Adèle Castillon, a singer of the new French pop scene made us rediscovered her first hits, such as the famous Amour plastique, as well as songs from her new album. The famous French-Congolese rapper Passi rocked the house while performing his greatest hits, such as Je zappe et je mate, Face à la mer; and of course the Bisso Na Bisso group’s hits. Bénabar, the symbol of French variety, performed his own classics, including Le Diner, and covered some ‘French chanson’ essentials.

A concert for more than 6,000 people is ambitious, but we are in New York: here, you have to think big! July 14 is a moment to which the French are very attached. We celebrate our culture and the values that unite us. The event in Central Park allows us to associate our American friends with the celebration and to share our culture.”
