The country is currently generating excitement through a captivating global promotional tour leading up to the Veteran Clubs World Championship (VCWC) 2024, also known as ‘The Legends Visit Rwanda.’ Soccer icons will embark on a worldwide promotional tour as part of this exciting journey.

In anticipation of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), VCWC 2024, made its impressive stopover in the bustling heart of New York City on Thursday, September 14. An event was organized in collaboration with UN Rwanda, to serve as a bridge for fostering diplomatic relations and a platform for discussing sustainable development goals. The exquisite setting for this auspicious gathering was the Marmara Park Avenue Hotel in the heart of Manhattan, where local media, entrepreneurs, diplomats, and various stakeholders congregated in unity. The primary objective was to reveal the ambitious plans for the inaugural edition of the Soccer Legends World Cup.”

Rwanda, a flourishing nation in Africa known for its flair in hosting international events, is poised to extend a warm welcome to football legends and veterans from across the globe during VCWC 2024. This event, scheduled for May 2024, offers a platform for connecting, competing, and contributing to sustainable development. VCWC 2024 comprises two main components: a tournament in support of non-profit organizations and forums aimed at fostering sustainable development.

Ambassador Claver Gatete, Rwanda’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, eloquently inaugurated the proceedings by expressing profound gratitude for selecting Rwanda as the inaugural host for VCWC 2024. He underscored the pivotal role that sports play in sustaining peace, fostering unity, and propelling economic growth.

Fred Siewe, Chairman of VCWC, elaborated on the fundamental purpose of the event, emphasizing its capacity to facilitate connections, promote collaborations, and contribute to sustainable development. He disclosed that Rwanda was selected as the host for this prestigious tournament, driven by three essential principles: safety, security, and environmental sustainability. These principles harmonize seamlessly with Rwanda’s identity as a nation profoundly dedicated to the welfare of its guests and the preservation of its environment.

Regis Isheja, the eloquent host and spokesperson of VCWC Rwanda 2024, engaged in a captivating conversation with the Brazilian legend, Jose Edmilson, renowned for his historic World Cup win in 2002. Today, he is a successful manager at FC Ska Brasil and the founder of Fundação Edmílson. He expressed his palpable excitement about reuniting with former teammates in Rwanda in 2024. He painted a vivid picture of the event, portraying it not just as a gathering of 150 Legends but also as a congregation of 150 entrepreneurs, highlighting its unique character. Most importantly, he shared his inspirational story, emphasizing that he has never forgotten his roots. Emerging from humble beginnings in the favelas of Brazil, soccer became his saving grace, enabling him to uplift his family’s fortunes. Today, his foremost priority is giving back to his country through philanthropic endeavors aimed at empowering the most underprivileged communities.”

As the VCWC 2024 tour embarks on its global journey, the upcoming international destinations include Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on September 19; Lagos, Nigeria, on October 5; Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, on October 10; Johannesburg, South Africa, on October 13; and Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, on October 18. This tour holds the promise of being an exhilarating prelude to an event that is poised to leave an indelible mark on both the world of soccer and sustainable global development.”
